Zebrafish <i>Danio rerio</i> exhibit positive growth profiles when fed dietary yeast and bacterial‐based single‐cell protein as a replacement for fish protein hydrolysate

Objective The value of Zebrafish Danio rerio as a preclinical biomedical model has increased nutritionally complete diets are being developed. Consequently, nutrients and nutrient sources can be used in evaluating the health status Zebrafish, providing information that translated to human health. We have investigated impact commercially produced bacterial (MRD-Pro) yeast (DY-Pro) single-cell protein formulated diets. Methods Thirty-five days after fertilization were randomized one five dietary treatments including FPH100 (a control diet with primarily fish hydrolysate [FPH] source), MRD50 MRD100 (diets replaced half or all FPH MRD, protein), DY50 DY100 DY, protein) for 8 weeks (n = tanks/diet treatment, 14 fish/tank). Result Female terminal wet weight was same among diets; however, male consuming MRD In addition, carcass lipid content significantly lower females DY than those fed FPH. Male Conclusion Results demonstrate suitable replacements and, female populations, may impart benefits related lean matter production reduced adiposity.
